Kuril tea is the name given to the bush cinquefoil (Potentilla fruticosa), which belongs to the Rosaceae family, genus Dasiphora (formerly Potentilla). It is also known as Dasiphora, cinquefoil or "mighty". The wild plant is distributed in Mongolia, China, Japan, Eastern Siberia and the Russian Far East.

They can grow singly or form small inflorescences up to 3 cm in diameter. It is the flowers and leaves that are most often used for medicinal purposes.
The beneficial properties of Kuril tea have been known since ancient times. Tibetan monks and Mongolian governors valued the drink for the vitality it gave and relief from many ailments. Modern research has scientifically proven the benefits of the plant.

Rules for care and cultivation
There are 150 known varieties of Pentaphylloides fruticosa for decorative purposes. A botanical description and photo of wild cinquefoil can be found in encyclopedias and atlases of medicinal plants. Cinquefoil shrub is considered unpretentious. It easily tolerates Siberian frosts and is able to grow even in permafrost conditions. Prefers moist soils with good drainage.
Landing
Produced in the second half of April. Potentilla should be planted where the plant will receive maximum sunlight. The soil chosen is fertile, with the addition of turf, humus and sand in a ratio of 2:2:1. And they also advise enriching the soil with mineral fertilizers, lime and ash. We need to create drainage. The root collar is left at the level of the edges of the hole.
Care
Includes fertilizing, watering and pruning. When the bush has taken root, during the period of flowering and growth, it is advisable to feed it with fertilizers rich in potassium and phosphorus. In spring, nitrogen-containing products are preferred.
There is no need to water the cinquefoil frequently; 10 liters of water several times per season is enough.
Pruning is done in the evening in cloudy weather. Dry, diseased and rotten branches are removed.
Collection and storage
You can collect and prepare plant materials throughout the growing season. It is recommended to cut flowers in July and August, roots - in March and October. The maximum healing effect is obtained from young leaves and unopened buds.
After collection, the raw materials are sorted, removing diseased, rotten, limp twigs and flowers. Selected elements are laid out on natural fabric in the open sun for several hours. Then put it in a semi-dark, ventilated, dry place to dry for another 2 weeks.
The finished raw materials can be placed in sealed glass containers or canvas bags. Potentilla is stored away from direct sunlight, moisture, medications and products with strong odors. Recommended temperature 25°C. If all conditions are met, the maximum shelf life is 2 years.
Reproduction
There are several ways to propagate cinquefoil:
- Cuttings. Take young and woody shoots. In the first case, the cutting has a length of 9 to 12 cm. The lower leaves are removed, and the upper ones are cut in half. It is planted under glass or film.
- Horizontal or vertical layers. In spring, at the base of the bush, the shoot is pressed to the ground and secured with wire. Shallow notches are made.
- Dividing mature bushes. Upon reaching 5-6 years of age, the root system is divided into several sections (from 2 to 6) and each is planted in its own hole.
- Seeds. The seeds are collected in early autumn. They are planted shallowly in a greenhouse, sprinkled with a little soil. After three years, the bush is moved to open ground.
Depending on your priorities, you can plant an unusual ornamental variety or wild cinquefoil in your garden. According to research results, plants with deep yellow flowers contain more medicinal substances than white, red, and orange ones.
