VESELKA - description and instructions for use

Where does the Veselka mushroom grow in Russia and when to collect it?

The basidiomycete fungus vulgare belongs to the order Phallus. Indeed, in its mature form, due to its long stem and round cap, it very much resembles the male genital organ in a state of arousal. Because of this specific “appearance”, the fungus is popularly called “shammer”.

It’s enough to look at the Veselka mushroom to understand why it is called “smotnik”

“Shamotnik” grows in temperate latitudes, in deciduous, coniferous and mixed forests.

  1. Veselka reproduces by spores of round, oval, elliptical shape
  2. The mushroom cap develops in the ground. It has a round shape and size of approximately 6 cm by 5 cm. At first it is light gray, as the mushroom matures it darkens
  3. The leg of the oar can “shoot” 10-30 cm from the ground
  4. The “scumbag” lives only two days. At the very beginning, it is a grayish gelatinous egg with a mycelial strand at the base. During the ripening period, a dark olive cap rises on a dense light stalk with spongy walls. By the end of the second day of life, the Veselka exudes a fetid aroma, and on the third day it disappears without a trace.

Very often, the “witch’s egg” forms a symbiosis with beech, oak and shrubs; you need to look for it under them.

In Russia it can be collected:

    Description

The life cycle of the Veselka mushroom is very different from all other mushrooms and plants. In the process of development, radical metamorphoses occur with it, because of which the attitude towards the mushroom has always been wary.

    Mushroom egg

At the beginning of development, a young fetal body is formed, similar in shape and size to a chicken egg. It is characterized by the following features:

    • at inception - it is the size of a pea, attached to the mycorrhiza with a special white cord;
    • As it grows, the egg acquires a spherical or flattened shape and increases in diameter to 6 cm.

The membrane of the fetal body, called the peridium, has a leathery structure, a smooth surface, and is colored white, off-white or light beige. Inside the egg is the future mature mushroom and the nutrients necessary for its maturation and protection. Closer to the shell there is a gelatinous layer, similar to Vaseline (not transparent, but not colored), under it there is a layer - the future cap, in the cap, and also closer to the cord there is a white layer - the future mushroom stalk. The mucous part of the mushroom is called “earth oil”.

Mushroom pickers claim that the young fruiting body of the Veselka looks like a raincoat, however, it has a softer consistency. The smell of the pulp is reminiscent of radish. Full development of the Veselka egg occurs in three weeks. It is in the egg that all the benefits of the Veselka mushroom lie.

    Adult mushroom

Gradual ripening leads to rupture of the fetal membrane into two or three parts. It opens like a flower, releasing the so-called adult mushroom, consisting of two parts.

    1. Recipe. This is a leg. It grows very actively (about 5 mm per minute). It grows completely (up to 25 cm) in about half an hour. The recipe has a cavity inside that reaches 4 mm in diameter. Its walls are loose and white, sometimes with a yellowish tint.
    2. Hat. Located on the top of the leg. Cone-shaped or bell-shaped. Its structure is cellular, and the surface is covered with a layer of dark gleba - a viscous sweet mucus that ensures spores adhere to the extremities of insects. The color of the cap is dark olive, brownish, diameter is about 5 cm. At the top of the cap there is a disc-shaped seal with a hole. It is from this place that disputes are heard. An adult mushroom exudes the smell of decomposition, rot, and rotten meat. It is he who attracts insects and helps to find the mushroom among the forest thickets. The characteristic “aroma” can be heard at a distance of 10-20 m.

An adult mushroom is also used for medicinal purposes, but contains much less useful substances than a mushroom egg. The fully developed form does not last long. On the third day, the stem begins to decompose, and the entire mushroom gradually rots, leaving behind a wet spot.

    Warning: twins

When collecting, it is important not to confuse the Veselka mushroom with its “twins”: mutinus canis and Veselka hadriana.

    • Mutinus. It is distinguished by its smaller size, darker shell, it appears dirty, often with a yellow tint. Also, a characteristic feature of this twin lies in the method of attachment to the mycelium - it has several thin cords, whereas the common vesel has only one, thick cord.
    • Veselka Hadriana. Her eggs are distinguished by their color; purple stains can be seen on their surface. These species have no medicinal value. In terms of healing properties, the only analogue of veselka is considered to be dictyophora. It is distinguished by the presence of a mesh veil in an adult mushroom.
