Fennel oil - beneficial properties and uses

Fennel oil, whose properties and uses are associated with colic in newborns, actually has nothing in common with fennel water. The phytoextract is isolated from the seed part of the fruit of a herbaceous plant growing in central Russia. Nevertheless, it is quite difficult to find it on sale. The reason for this is not the low cost of receipt. And for the most fragrant essence, they use raw materials growing in European countries. The main value of fennel oil lies in its adaptogenic effect on the human body. That is why it will be interesting to those who lack strength and internal energy.

Short story

The history of fennel goes back to ancient times, when our ancestors used the herb to get rid of digestive disorders. To this day, fennel water is used for newborns. However, essential oil is found in small quantities only in the seeds of the fruit of this plant. People learned to isolate phytoessence only at the dawn of French perfumery, when legendary compositions were revealed to the world over the course of a hundred years. Over time, natural aromas were replaced with synthetic analogues, but even now interest in natural essential oils continues.

And everything can be explained by their extraordinary effect on the human body. And some of them can even be used as perfumes in their pure form. Do not forget that such perfumes are many times more effective on the opposite sex.

What it is

Fennel essential oil is a volatile oily mass that is isolated from the seeds of fennel, a herbaceous plant.

Fennel grows in many countries of the world, including Russia. Its maximum height reaches two meters, and the culture can be recognized by its umbrella flowers. It is due to this external resemblance to dill that fennel is sometimes called its sweet variety.

The phytoextract is obtained by steam distillation; its aroma is very sweet, rather cloying, and the consistency is light. The colorless mass is famous for its incredible ability to normalize the psycho-emotional state.

Application and beneficial properties of oil

Thanks to its wide range of healing capabilities, fennel essential oil has found wide application in a wide range of cosmetology and medical practice. It contains fenchol, pinene, anethole, limonene, camphene, as well as phytoestrogens and a whole complex of vitamins that are indispensable for maintaining youth and beauty.

It is successfully used as an auxiliary remedy for various diseases.

Fennel has pronounced healing properties: anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, wound healing, antioxidant, has a regenerating effect, tightens the facial contour, restoring the elasticity of the epidermis.

It has long been noticed that fennel oil has a positive effect on the reproductive function of the female body. The properties of fennel, such as activating the activity of the endocrine glands, will ease the premenstrual state, normalize the menstrual cycle, and smooth out the discomfort of menopause.

Chemical composition

And it’s no secret that perfume companies learned to make synthetic analogues of natural essential oils at least two centuries ago. However, cheaper and same-smelling products will never be equal to the original product. Ever wondered why? The thing is that real fennel essential oil contains at least a hundred components - some of them disappear in the very first minutes or seconds, while others remain. Both substances have different effects on the respiratory system and skin. Therefore, due to the complex effect, the effect is not comparable to the effect of a synthetic fragrance, which can most likely cause a headache.

So what is contained in fennel essential oil:

  • trans-anethole – adds sweetness to the aroma, the component smells like anise;
  • fenchol – adds bitterness to the taste and a subtle camphority to the smell;
  • anisealdehyde – provides a spicy aroma;
  • terpene hydrocarbons – have an antibacterial effect, increase the emotional background, accelerate cellular regeneration when used externally.

Much also depends not only on what exactly is contained in the composition, but on specific proportions. That is why everything is determined by the quality of the raw materials. Thus, the essential oil obtained from fennel growing in our country will be significantly different from the European one - the imported one contains more anethole.

If you compare fennel oil with other essential oils, there are substances that are not found in, for example, rose or neroli and many other very popular ones. Due to this difference, the extract is famous for its unprecedented smoothing effect on the skin and its ability to increase performance.

  • bottle volume – does not exceed 10 ml;
  • there is a protective ring under the cover;
  • the label shows the Latin name of the plant, Foenículum vulgáre;
  • there is information about the place of collection of raw materials, the importer;
  • production method - steam distillation of fennel seeds, neither oil extraction nor direct pressing;
  • composition – “100% natural fennel essential oil”.

No matter how simple everything may seem, you can find products on the market whose manufacturers sometimes try to confuse the buyer by indicating “perfume”, “cosmetic” and other names for the oil. That is why the composition should contain information about the natural origin and percentage.

Uses of fennel oil

The variety of applications of fennel essential oil suggests that it will certainly be useful, if not in aromatherapy, then definitely in everyday life. It is used in folk medicine as a way to alleviate colds and viral infections, soap making to give soap an unsurpassed aroma and antibacterial effect, household products, perfumes, massage treatments, cooking and cosmetology. Below we will look at each of the listed industries in detail.

Aromatherapy. And this is perhaps the main area of application of any essential oil. There are two options here:

  • room aromatization;
  • aroma baths.

Aroma lamps are used to aromatize rooms. In this case, for a room that does not exceed 15 square meters in volume, no more than 6 drops are dripped into a container of water. If there is no aroma lamp, the product can be dropped in the same amount onto a damp sponge, which should then be placed on a warm radiator.

Another way to quickly fill up with strength, relax, and reduce joint and muscle pain is aroma baths. It is worth understanding here that any essential oil does not dissolve in water. Therefore, first you need to add it to warm milk. 1 glass is enough, and 5-6 drops of essential oil. You can first add a tablespoon of honey or sea salt to the milk. The mixture needs to be mixed and poured into a bathtub full of warm water.

IMPORTANT. During the procedure, it is forbidden to immerse your head in water.

Cooking. In safe proportions, the product can be added to salads, used to flavor tea leaves or alcohol-containing drinks (up to 10 drops per liter are added to liqueurs and other drinks).

Losing weight. Fennel essential oil can be drunk every day 30 minutes before meals, but not in its pure form, but by adding it to a glass of water or tea, also dripping it onto bread or cookies. Thanks to its antimicrobial effect, the product suppresses unwanted intestinal microflora, improves metabolic processes, due to which food is better digested.

Home and life. Fennel essential oil can be added to dishwashing or floor cleaner. This improves the cleaning properties of the finished composition, giving different notes to the final smell.

Perfumery. Essential oils began to appear five hundred years ago, when the legendary French perfumery began to emerge. And those compositions that were created so long ago have survived to this day. They are distinguished by the unpretentiousness and unobtrusiveness of their aromas, and now not all perfumes on the market are distinguished by this.

If you want to feel like a perfumer, you can arm yourself with any essential oils and start cooking. It is worth understanding that only some masters are able to put a whole story into one bottle, but if you wish, you can create a simple composition for yourself. Take an airtight container, add 20 ml of 95% alcohol, add 5 drops of any ethers, and close the lid. Store the vessel in the refrigerator for two weeks, after 14 days the perfume will be ready.

In its pure form, etherol can be applied to paper and placed in a drawer between underwear, dripped onto a sponge and carried in a purse, placed on a piece of fabric and attached to clothing.

Massage treatments. Massage treatments are inherently relaxing. But if you add fennel essential oil to the mixture or base oil, the effect will increase significantly, and the skin will become smoother and velvety.

Cosmetology. The use of fennel essential oil in this area is actually very simple. It can be added to ready-made formulations and homemade masks. To make the skin smooth and even, it is enough to regularly massage problem areas - affected by cellulite or stars, stretch marks, scars - with a mixture of any base oil.

IMPORTANT. In any case, the proportion of 1 drop applies. per 10 ml base.

To maintain youth, massage your face with the same mixture and add fennel oil to your face cream. But no more than 1-2 times a week.

To quickly restore the structure of your nails, apply pure to each nail. To moisturize the skin of your hands, add to baths. Adding it to foot creams will eliminate unpleasant odor and reduce sweating.

Aroma combing will help quickly restore hair:

  • Take a comb and evenly distribute a drop of product over the teeth;
  • comb your curls for only 5 minutes;
  • repeat 2 times a week.

If your hair is difficult to comb, after washing your hair, rub a drop between your palms and lightly lubricate the ends.

You can achieve the effect of salon care by adding it to shampoo. Distribute the foam over your hair and leave for 5 minutes. Do the same with conditioner or balm.

Ethnoscience. The antibacterial and warming properties of etherol come in handy here. To reduce muscle or joint pain, make warm compresses with a mixture of base oil in a ratio of 1 drop per 10 milliliters. To eliminate papillomas and warts, apply directly to the affected areas. The same rule applies to combating nail fungus.

To reduce the likelihood of contracting viral infections, perform aromatherapy regularly. To relieve nasal congestion and cough, use inhalations:

  • cold type - drop 1-4 drops onto a napkin and inhale for 5 minutes;
  • hot type – 1 drop in a glass of boiling water, breathe in steam for 5 minutes.

Before use, read the contraindications.
