Preparing chaga tea for oncology takes a lot of time, but the result is highly effective.

Benefits and properties of the mushroom

In folk medicine, it is often used to treat a large number of diseases, including even oncology. This can be not only a therapeutic agent, but also a preventive one. Many people believe that this formation on the tree is a parasite that only destroys it. But it’s worth looking at all this from the other side. It collects those juices and beneficial elements that it receives from its owner. Preparation of miraculous substances based on it will help to transfer them to a sick person.

The beneficial properties of chaga birch for men are that it is a powerful stimulant that normalizes hormonal levels. This is very important, because it is during this period that the amount of testosterone is disrupted, which leads to a decrease in potency. The components that it contains also have a positive effect on men's health. Among them are:

  • molybdenum – it prevents the development of impotence;
  • zinc – helps increase desire, maintains erection and prevents inflammation in the prostate gland;
  • copper – helps maintain male strength and libido.

But the main problem is based not only on normalizing the amount of testosterone in the blood, but also on regulating other aspects. What are the benefits of chaga for men? It consists in exerting the following influence on the body of a representative of the stronger sex:

  • antispasmodic;
  • diuretic;
  • anti-inflammatory;
  • regenerative;
  • normalizing the functioning of the nervous system.

Contraindications

Like any medicine, chaga tea has its limitations in use and contraindications for use. In order not to cause harm to the body, while drinking the drink, you must stop smoking and drinking alcoholic beverages. You should also avoid taking antibiotics, including penicillin, and refrain from intravenous glucose injections.

Knowing the benefits and harms of chaga tea, you should avoid drinking it in the following cases:

  • for colitis;
  • for dysentery;
  • for intestinal dysfunction.

Despite the wide range of medicinal properties of birch chaga tea, it is prohibited to consume it during pregnancy and lactation. People who are hypersensitive to any components of the raw material should drink the drink with caution.

Side effects and warnings

There is no evidence of negative effects of chaga tea. If you are taking medications or are simply sensitive to various side effects, then you need to take this fact into account and not self-medicate.

People who have diabetes, autoimmune diseases, or those taking blood thinning medications should not drink it. Not all aspects have been studied yet, so pregnant and breastfeeding women should be extremely careful.

When can you collect chaga on a birch tree?

You can collect medicinal mushrooms at any time of the year, but it is advisable to do this in early spring or late autumn.

You need to stock up on a sharp long knife or a small hatchet. The mushroom must be trimmed at the base, while separating the soft, unusable part.

The mushroom tends to become almost stone-like after it is cut. Therefore, it is necessary to immediately cut it into small pieces. You will have to do this anyway before drinking chaga. This will make processing easier in the future.

Some tips for collecting chaga:

  • You should not cut off a mushroom that grows at a height of less than one meter above the ground.
  • Only chaga from birch trees that are at least 20 years old is considered medicinal.
  • Chaga should only be collected from a living tree.

Having cleared the mushroom from the top layer and unnecessary loose material, the middle of the mushroom is cut into pieces of 4-6 cm. Then dried under natural conditions. You can use an oven preheated to 60 degrees for drying.

The mushroom must be stored in a dry, clean container with a closed lid. It is not worth harvesting a lot of chaga, since the healing properties of the collected mushroom are retained only for 4 months.

Rules for collecting chaga

To get full-fledged, healthy tea from chaga, you need to know the rules for collecting the raw materials.

  1. Tinder fungus can be collected throughout the year, but it is most valuable in early spring or late autumn.
  2. The mushroom should be cut with a sharp knife or a small hatchet with a sharp blade.
  3. Only the hard part is considered suitable; the pulp is not of high value.
  4. After cutting, the tinder fungus should be immediately broken into small pieces, since it has the property of quickly hardening in air.
  5. The collected and crushed raw materials should be dried in the oven at a temperature of 60° or under natural conditions.
  6. Dried raw materials should be stored in a dry, tightly closed container.

Chaga is suitable for herbal tea only for 4 months, since then it loses its healing properties. Therefore, experts do not recommend procuring large volumes of raw materials.

Chaga storage

In order for chaga to retain its beneficial properties, you must adhere to some rules:

  1. The best place for storage would be paper bags or cardboard boxes.
  2. The room in which the containers will be located must be well ventilated and dry.

Interesting fact! It is not recommended to store the product in jars with screw caps, as... the mushroom will not breathe and will spoil.

There is debate about how long chaga can be stored; some argue that if stored properly, it can retain its properties for many years, but all biologically active substances have a shelf life, and for the mushroom it is 2 years.

What is Chaga?

Chaga mushroom - what it helps against and what diseases it will protect against.
Chaga is a sterile form of the species Inonotus obliquus . It belongs to the genus Inonotus, division Basiodymycetes. Due to the fact that it is most often found on birch, it is also called "birch mushroom", but it can occasionally be found on rowan, beech, elm, maple and alder.

Chaga is a sign that the tree is sick. The spores of this fungus take root only in places where the tree bark has been damaged, for example, cracked in winter due to severe frosts, or destroyed by humans or animals. Infection with chaga spores causes white heart rot of wood. First, light yellow spots and lines appear in the false nucleus, gradually expanding and merging with each other. A light brown protective zone is formed along the perimeter of the rot, black lines are visible inside, and rusty-brown inclusions of mycelium are visible at the fracture sites. The incubation period of infection lasts approximately 3–4 years, after which a dark, irregularly shaped growth appears on the bark - the fruiting body of the fungus. Its shape will depend on the nature of the damage on the tree bark. Chaga grows for a long time and destroys the tree gradually - over several decades. After thirty years of continuous growth, it can reach up to 40 cm in diameter, thickness up to 15 cm, and weight up to 5 kg.

Chaga mushroom – what it helps against and what diseases it will protect against

The outer surface of the growth is black and covered with numerous cracks, the inner surface has a dark brown tint, which turns into brown-red near the tree trunk itself. The entire growth is permeated with whitish veins consisting of colorless mycelial hyphae.

Over time, a spore-bearing layer of the fungus develops under the bark, the hyphae of which spread along the trunk in all directions for a distance of up to a meter. In the last stage of growth, ridge-like projections called “thrust plates” appear, which once break through the tree bark, exposing the brownish-brown spore-bearing layer. The spores are thick-walled, with droplets of oil inside, at first colorless, and then acquiring a pale red color.

For a host tree, the appearance of chaga on it, over time, ends in death - it breaks and falls, while the fungus can live for a long time on an already fallen and dead trunk.

How to brew chaga

How to brew mushroom correctly and how to drink it? To begin with, dry chaga is washed, soaked in boiled water and left for 5 hours. After a while, the mushroom is taken out of the water (the water is not poured out, but heated to 50 degrees), crushed and filled with warm water in which it was lying in a ratio of 1:5. Leave to infuse for 2 days, after which the infusion is drained and the crushed particles are squeezed through a sieve. The chaga infusion is ready; you just need to bring it with boiled water to its original volume. Take half a glass before meals 3 times a day.

Types of chaga birch

Related species of chaga birch are the radiata and bristle-haired polypores.

Polypore radiata, or inonotus radiata (Xanthopória radiata)

The fruiting body is annual, looks like a sessile, widely grown lateral cap; if there are several of them, they form a kind of “tile”. The length of the caps is about 5 cm, width 6-8 cm, thickness 5-20 mm. The caps are flattened, the edge is sharp, in young mushrooms the surface is velvety, from yellow to reddish-brown, later becoming bare, shiny, rusty or dark brown, wrinkled. The pulp is shiny, fibrous, light brown or red-brown in color. The fungus attacks the wood of deciduous trees, growing mainly on alder and rarely on birch trees. It is found in the temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere, in the Himalayas.

Bristle-haired polypore (Inonotus hispidus)

The fruiting body is annual, capped, sessile, solitary or 2-3 caps form a “tile” and grows widely to the substrate. The dimensions of the cap are 10x16x8 cm. The surface of young mushrooms is colored red-orange, later red-brown or blackish, velvety-hairy. The pulp is brownish in color, light at the edge and surface of the caps, radially fibrous. The fungus is common in the temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere, growing on broad-leaved trees, oaks, ash and apple trees, less commonly found on fir, maple, horse chestnut, alder, birch, hawthorn, beech, walnut, mulberry, pear, sycamore, poplar, plum.

How to drink chaga

It is equally important to know not only how to infuse chaga, but also whether the raw materials can be reused. How many times can you brew? A properly infused product can be brewed 3 times, and it is the last brew that is considered the most beneficial.

Using the product as tea, brewing occurs once, after which the used raw materials are thrown away. Those who decide to use infusions are wondering whether it is possible to drink chaga every day. In the absence of contraindications and individual intolerance, it can be consumed daily. The shelf life of the mushroom infusion when stored in the refrigerator is 4 days.

How many days can you drink chaga tea?

To achieve the desired effect, you can drink medicinal chaga tea in two ways:

  1. This course of tea intake is designed for short periods of one or two weeks with long breaks. This scheme is used several times throughout the year. This method is suitable for the preventive treatment of cancer patients in the absence of disease relapse.
  2. This method considers long-term treatment: from 2 to 5 months of drinking tea. The break between courses is from 7 to 10 days. This method is used to more quickly achieve the treatment effect.

Daily drink intake: 200 ml 2 times a day. The tea must be stored in the refrigerator.

Chaga double extract

So, if you want to get the maximum benefits from chaga at home, use the double extraction method. In principle, this method works not only with chaga, but also with any other dried medicinal mushrooms. And yet, more often it is used for those of them that are difficult to grind into powder at home due to increased hardness or fibrousness (chaga, multi-colored, flat and ordinary tinder fungi, reishi, etc.).

Double extraction implies two successive stages of processing, which are necessary in order to extract the entire complex of active substances from the mushroom, not only to the maximum, but also in optimal proportions. At the first stage, chaga is soaked in pure or slightly diluted alcohol (at least 80%) for 20 to 40 days (try to get alcohol; good double-distilled moonshine will also work).

The smaller the pieces into which the chaga is chopped, and the higher the alcohol strength, the less time you can infuse. We know that at a strength above 60-65%, alcohol begins to work as a preservative for many organic substances (which is why strong alcohol tinctures are not always “full”), but for fat- and alcohol-soluble components, alcohol is an ideal “extractor”.

The most valuable alcohol-extractable components of chaga are triterpenoids (anti-inflammatory activity), sterols (antiviral activity), ergothioneines (antioxidants). All these substances are inaccessible for digestion: hot water has practically no effect on them.

We advise you to read: Sea buckthorn tea: the best recipes, benefits and harms, cooking secrets

After receiving the alcohol tincture, the pieces of chaga need to be removed from it, rinsed with cold water, transferred to a hot place and boiled. This will give us the opportunity to extract water-soluble polysaccharides - the second main group of medicinal components of the mushroom. Don’t be afraid of boiling - the polysaccharide complexes of mushrooms are not destroyed at 100 ° C, but their extraction is much more efficient: remember - sugar dissolves in hot water much faster than in cold water, but remains sweet sugar.

Why, you ask, extract substances from chaga sequentially, if part of the mushroom can be put into alcohol, and the other part into boiling water? The fact is that after treatment with alcohol and removal of fat-soluble components, water-soluble ones are pulled out most completely with hot water, since the pieces of fruiting bodies are already “prepared” and somewhat loosened with alcohol.

The boiling time depends on the size of the chaga pieces (the larger the longer) and takes from 12 hours to a day . You can cook in any container; the water temperature during cooking is 80-100° C.

For both alcohol and water extracts to be most effective, the chaga pieces should take up one-third to one-half of the volume filled with alcohol or water. After receiving the tincture and decoction, you can use them as you wish - individually and in a mixture, in pure form or adding them in varying proportions to other foods or drinks. The optimal ratio for mixing alcohol and water extracts is 1:2. A tablespoon of this “potion” per day will have the maximum physiological effect.

If you don’t want to bother with all of the above, but still want a double extract, go to any pharmacy and buy two drugs: befungin and chaga tincture. Befungin is an aqueous extract, chaga tincture is an alcohol extract. Mix them in a 1:2 ratio, and you have a more or less acceptable double extract. Of course, the alcoholic part of the extract in this case was obtained at an alcohol strength lower than recommended (70, not 80%), and you won’t check the quality of the raw materials either, but overall everything should be very good. Note

If you are an opponent of strong alcohol in moral and aesthetic terms, or alcohol is not indicated for you for some medical reasons, then after infusing and removing the chaga, you can evaporate it by placing the tincture on medium heat. Moreover, alcohol is not the only possible solvent, and instead you can use other more or less effective extractors for triterpenoids - glycerin or vinegar. Just keep in mind that glycerin will subsequently no longer mix normally with the water infusion if you want to prepare a mixture of triterpenoids and polysaccharides.

Extract or extract

In medicine, plant extracts are prepared by extraction, that is, by extracting or extracting healing components and substances from medicinal raw materials, using special devices.

There are several folk ways of preparing chaga extract at home, here is one of them:

Take 2 teaspoons of crushed chaga, pour 150 ml. warm boiled water and leave for two days. The solution is of very high concentration, which is taken one tablespoon at a time 10 minutes before meals. Treatment lasts up to six months, after every 2 weeks of treatment, a break of 10 days is required. Traditional medicine treats circulatory disorders with this extract.
