Propolis tincture, recipe

Let's find out together what propolis with alcohol helps with. Propolis is one of the important beekeeping products. In a bee colony, it serves to seal cracks in the hive, as a “preservative” for uninvited guests, as a disinfectant, and as an irreplaceable building material. For the human body, this bee resin or glue is a remedy for many diseases.

Propolis is not only a traditional medicine, it is also part of pharmaceutical medicines. Alcohol tincture of propolis has the same medicinal properties as the substance itself, is used for oral administration, and can also be used externally.

Propolis with alcohol: medicinal properties

Propolis in alcohol has many medicinal properties that are inherent in this substance itself and enhanced by the strong alcohol component. This product, obtained by bees, consists of resins, wax, enzymes produced by insects, vitamins, and minerals.

Bees not only collect nectar and pollen, but also substances from the opened buds of trees. This resin is delivered by them to the hive and turns into propolis. Its composition determines its healing properties:

  • disinfectants;
  • anti-inflammatory;
  • antibacterial;
  • wound healing;
  • anesthetics;
  • antioxidant;
  • sedatives;
  • restorative.

These properties of propolis and its alcohol tincture have long been used in the treatment of colds and ENT diseases, gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, gastritis, pencreatitis, for disinfecting the oral cavity, strengthening gums, and relieving toothache. Propolis with alcohol is used to treat gynecological diseases, to relieve inflammation of the joints and back (radiculitis, lumbago), in the treatment of wounds, skin rashes, and furunculosis.

Is it possible to use propolis tincture with alcohol for gastritis and gastric ulcers?

We strongly do not recommend using propolis tincture with alcohol for stomach ulcers and gastritis. Using an alcohol solution for medicinal purposes can worsen the situation and cause additional problems. Modern medicine recommends using propolis oil for stomach ulcers and gastritis.

Propolis recipe with alcohol

Ready-made tincture or preparations with propolis can be purchased at the pharmacy. But we will tell you how to infuse propolis with alcohol at home. This is easy to do if the real substance is purchased from experienced beekeepers directly at the apiary.

You can easily check the quality of propolis by dipping it in water. A real, high-quality one will sink to the bottom, and one with a lot of wax and little resin will immediately float to the surface.

In addition, fresh propolis smells like resins, not chemicals. After pressing with your finger on the lump of substance, a dent should remain. Too hard, “stone” propolis has already lost some of its medicinal qualities. The color of propolis ranges from dark green to red-brown. It depends on the location of the apiary and the trees growing nearby.

Start preparing propolis tincture with alcohol by freezing it. This will make it easier to crush so that the extract quickly turns into alcohol. Propolis tincture at home is usually made at 10% or 20%. Depending on the concentration for its preparation, a ratio of propolis to alcohol is 1:10 or 2:10. You can use the same principle to make a 30% or even 50% concentration of the tincture, increasing the amount of the ingredient accordingly.

Advice. Use only high-quality, medical ethyl alcohol with a strength of 700 to prepare the tincture.
