Treatment with folk remedies

In case of severe sore throat, prolonged sore throat and cough, it is necessary to seek medical help to establish the cause of the symptoms and an accurate diagnosis in order to understand how to treat and choose the right medications and remedies. To effectively treat inflammation and infection that cause dryness and itching, it is necessary to take antiviral, antibacterial or antifungal drugs with systemic action on the pathogen.

And at home, to relieve severe discomfort and symptoms, you can use:

  • rinsing;
  • compresses;
  • inhalation;
  • oils

An effective way to get rid of sore throat and irritation is to gargle. During this procedure, microbes that cause irritation are washed away, and damaged tissue is regenerated. All rinsing solutions should be warm (do not use hot ones, otherwise the mucous membrane will suffer even more), and the procedure should continue for 4-5 minutes. The following compositions can be used for rinsing:

  • Soda solution. Dissolve baking soda (a teaspoon) in hot water (a glass) and let the solution cool to a warm state. Rinse with this product 4-5 times a day. Continue treatment for 5-7 days.

  • Salt solution . Dissolve sea or iodized salt (1 teaspoon) in warm water (a glass). Filter the composition and apply every 2 hours for the procedure.
  • A solution of salt, soda and apple cider vinegar . Add a total of a teaspoon of all ingredients to warm water (cup) and mix well. If a precipitate forms, filter the product and use it for treatment.

  • Solution with peroxide 3% . Add 3% peroxide (a teaspoon) to a glass of warm water and use immediately. The prepared solution cannot be stored. It is better to take peroxide from a new, just opened bottle.
  • Beet juice . Grate raw red beets on a fine grater and squeeze out the juice (200 grams). Add table or apple cider vinegar (a tablespoon) to it and use it to rinse 3-4 times a day.

  • Propolis infusion. Dilute propolis tincture (a tablespoon) in warm water (200 ml) and gargle every hour during the day.
  • Cranberry juice . Squeeze juice (a glass) from cranberries. Add honey (3 tablespoons) to it. Use the resulting composition for frequent rinsing and take orally.
  • Chamomile infusion . Pour hot water (a cup) over dried chamomile flowers (a tablespoon) and leave for 15 minutes. Use the filtered infusion to rinse and take orally in small sips throughout the day. Chamomile infusion is also used to treat stye on a child’s eye.

  • Sage infusion . Brew dry sage leaves (3 tablespoons) with hot water (liter) and leave for 1-2 hours. Rinse with filtered infusion 5 times a day, warming it to a comfortable temperature. The course of treatment is up to 6 days.

Another effective treatment method for sore throat and dry cough is inhalation. Hot steam, warming, has a beneficial effect on inflammation, and the components of inhalation fight germs. The following inhalations are used:

  • Potato . Boil potatoes in their skins (3 pieces), drain the water and breathe over the pan, covered with a towel for 10-15 minutes. Carry out the procedure twice a day.

  • With eucalyptus oil . Take boiling water (250 ml) and add eucalyptus essential oil (3-5 drops) to it. Cover yourself with a towel and breathe in the healing steam for 10 minutes. Carry out this inhalation up to 4 times a day for 5 days.
  • With sage decoction . Pour chopped dry sage herb (2 tablespoons) with water (2 cups) and boil the mixture for 5 minutes. Turn off the heat and leave the mixture covered for 7-10 minutes. Carry out inhalation, covered with a towel and inhaling the vapor for 20 minutes three times a day. Continue the course of treatment for a week.

  • Onion-garlic. Grind the onion and garlic into a paste and squeeze out the juice. Take it in equal parts and dilute it with water 1 to 10. Place the mixture in a water bath and bring to a boil. Let stand for 5-7 minutes and carry out inhalation, the time of which varies from 15 to 20 minutes. Carry out treatment 4 times a day, using the same composition twice.

Compresses will help treat a sore throat and dry cough. Use:

  • Vodka . Heat a little vodka until warm, soak a gauze or cloth in it, wring it out and apply it to the front of the neck. Place compress paper on top of the fabric and wrap it with a warm soft scarf or scarf. Keep this compress for 2-3 hours several times a day.

  • Cabbage . Pour hot water over the cabbage leaf and beat lightly. Apply to the outside of your throat and tie with a warm scarf. To make the treatment more effective, you can lubricate the leaf with natural honey. Keep the compress for 2 hours.
  • Curd . Place the squeezed homemade cottage cheese in a linen cloth or several layers of gauze and place the compress on the neck. Cover the top with paper or film and wrap it with something warm. Leave this compress on all night.

  • Made from mustard, honey and flour . Mix mustard powder, natural honey and any flour in equal quantities. Place the resulting cake on your throat, cover it with paper for compresses and wrap it with a warm scarf. Keep the compress for at least 2 hours, and after removing it, wrap your throat with a scarf for some time.

In addition to the listed treatment methods, the following remedies are also effective:

  • Honey. Slowly dissolve a teaspoon of natural honey in your mouth. Honey relieves attacks of pain and cough by coating the throat.

  • Sea buckthorn oil . Take a spoonful of sea buckthorn oil into your mouth and suck it for 5 minutes. Sea buckthorn oil is also used to treat crusts in the nose.
  • Propolis infusion with sugar . Add propolis infusion (5 drops) to sugar (a teaspoon) and hold the mixture in your mouth until completely dissolved. After the procedure, do not eat or eat for 20-25 minutes.

  • Warming drink . Add chopped dry sage herb (a teaspoon) into milk (a glass) and boil the mixture for 10 minutes. Filter the broth and take the entire portion warm at night. Warm milk with honey will help treat a barking cough in a child.
  • Banana drink . Mash peeled banana (1 piece) into a puree. Add cocoa powder (a tablespoon) to it and mix. Boil milk (a glass) and add a mixture of banana and cocoa. Drink the product hot at night for 3-5 days.

You learned how to treat a cough and throat when it hurts and itches. Remember that home treatment will be much more effective if you start it immediately after the first symptoms appear. Choose the recipe that suits you best and get well soon.

Rinse

For purulent sore throat, soda-salt rinses (10 grams of salt, 1 gram of soda per 100 ml of water) have a good effect. This solution helps remove pus. To treat cough in chronic tonsillitis, use a decoction of the roots and rhizomes of calamus. An extract from this plant has astringent properties and promotes tissue regeneration after the discharge of purulent “plugs”.

sore throat, gargling, cough treatment

At the initial stage of a sore throat or laryngitis, it is better to use a chamomile decoction (a teaspoon of dried crushed flowers in a glass of water). Pour boiling water over chamomile, leave for 30 minutes, and gargle after each meal. Salt only irritates the mucous membranes. And opportunistic microflora (for example, staphylococcus) do not die even in a hypertonic saline solution, although the average person believes otherwise.
